There are some things that just make Christmas - Brussel sprouts (love them or loathe them, it doesn’t matter, they have earnt their place on your plate), crackers and their appalling jokes and of course, the Christmas jumper. Equally, Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without a new piece of technological wizzadry to open, and spend the entire morning trying to figure out.
With just over two weeks left to go before the big day, we thought it would be handy to have a look at the top five must-have gadgets for Christmas 2016.
# 5 The Amazon Echo Dot
The Amazon Echo Dot is a completely hands free, voice controlled device which connects to the Alexa Voice Service to make your life, well, perfect. When hooked up to your home system it can dim lights or turn the heating up, all with a simple request.
Gone are the days where you will have to pause a film to do a search of IMDB to find out the name of a particular actor – Alexa can tell you. She is just that amazing. Of course, the drawback is that you have to start each command with “Alexa”, so there is every chance you may find yourself calling out her name in your sleep. That could lead to some rather awkward questions, which is why Alexa is not our top pick.
# 4 The Rubik’s Spark
When you think of the Rubik’s Cube you will of course recall those colourful stickers (and the hours you spent prising them off and reattaching them). Today’s Rubik’s is slightly different, startlingly less colourful, but it instead lights up!
This electronic version offers six different game types including Light the Cube, Follow the Path and Snackin’ Shake; all of which will keep you occupied for hours. It can even offers single or multiplayer options to keep the whole family entertained.
If you want a Christmas with battitude, then look no further than Nocto – the interactive light-up bat. We have to warn you, Nocto is actually a teenage bat, which means he is prone to mood swings, and is partial to a bat nap or two. In fact, he comes with six different moods and modes, all of which have different lights, expressions, sounds and movements.
As well as that, there are also four interactive games to keep you entertained, and even better, Nocto comes with his own stand so he can hang upside down. We’re hoping Santa brings us one for the office!
#2 Fire Kids Edition Tablet
Once upon a time tablets were the device of the adult. That has entirely changed, and taken on a whole new dimension, with the Kids Fire. Available in either pink or blue (got to love a gender stereotype) it comes with more than 5,000 age-appropriate games, educational apps, videos and books, as well as one year of Fire for Kids unlimited. That should definitely keep the occupied until pudding.
It also has a 7” display, front and back cameras, and a kid-proof case. The two-year worry-free guarantee is also a huge bonus, along with the parental controls. This is a great way to keep the little ones entertained, stimulated and educated over the Christmas period.
# 1 Scalextric Arc One Super GT Set
Scalextric was made for Christmas, and just the mere mention of the name can make us all feel quite nostalgic. While most of the time spent playing Scalextric was actually used up putting your car back on the track, the good news is technology gives you an added advantage.
With this latest version you can use your Smartphone as a handy track guide, using it to tell you lap times and recording drivers names, as well as scheduling in pit stops for fuel! This will keep big and small kids occupied and competing well into 2017 and we highly recommend it.
